The Nigerian pair of Clifford Enosoregbe and Abdulmumuni Babalola have crashed out of the first leg of the Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Championship by French duo Tom Jomby and Sebastien Johan Tatlot.
Enosoregbe and Babalola had lost their Singles matches earlier in the day and were hoping to bounce back in the doubles, but their hopes were dashed by their more experienced opponent.
However, Jomby and Tatlot were made to fight for their win as they won both the first and second set through tie breaks 7-6(2), 7-6 (4).
The 1st set was very close as both teams ensured they held their serves as frequently as possible.
The 2nd set was entirely different from the 1st. It was full of drama as Enosoregbe and Babalola went on a 3-0 run to overturn a 3-1 deficit.
At a point in time the Nigerian duo were 5-4 up but the foreigners turned the tables around to win the second tie break of the match.
Piskun and Masuri strolled past Adetayo Adetunji and Oyinlomo Quadri 6-2, 6-1 despite a lot of support from the home fans.
This loss for the Nigerian pair means they will have to bide their time and wait until the second leg before they can stand any chance of further participating in the ITF pro-circuit which is regarded as the biggest in West and Central Africa.
