Nigerian tennis sensation, Matthew Abamu was made to fight by home favourite, Elyes Ben Abdallah in their first round match of the African Junior Championship 16 & Under in Tunisia on Tuesday.
Abamu squeezed through the first set, before going on to dominate the Tunisian, claiming a 7-5, 6-2 victory in the North African nation. The Nigerian will next face top seeded Ivorian, Eliakim Coulibaly.
Gabriel Friday, however, had it tough against Toky Ranaivo as he fell to a 6-3, 6-3 defeat at the hands of the Moroccan; his racket and physical condition contributing heavily to the defeat.
“My racket all snapped during the match and I had muscle pull,” a disappointed Friday said in a post match interview.
All attention will now be drawn towards Oyinlomo Quadri, who will look to keep up with her good start when she gets into action today.
