Teen sensation, Oyinlomo Quadri, on Monday, got off to a flying start in her quest for a title at the 2018 ITF/CAT African Junior Championship 16 and Under in Tunis, Tunisia.
The 14-year-old was clearly too hot for her Algerian opponent, Boukholda Houria as she claimed a comfortable 6-3, 6-2 win.
The tennis prodigy is competing at this category for the second time having dominated the 14 & Under category few years ago, where she won an unprecedented three consecutive titles in Cotonou, Benin Republic and Lome.
To underline her determination to surpass her feat last year where she reached the quarterfinals, the Lagos-based Aces Tennis Academy player skipped the Central Bank of Nigeria Junior Open to compete in a warm up tournament in the Tunisian capital last week.
Nigeria’s coach, Mohammed Ubale described Quadri’s performance as impressive adding, “she played a very good game which, if she sustained, will help her go far.”
Matthew Abamu and Gabriel Friday, who recently won the Boys’ 16 & Under category at the just concluded CBN Junior Open, are the other Nigerians featuring in the week-long clay-court championship attracting over 50 players from 18 countries.
In the draws made yesterday, Friday will play Ranaivo Toky of Madagascar, while the Lagos-based Abamu faces a seemingly tough test when he locks horn with home-favourite Ben Abdullah.
