41st ITF/CAT African Junior Closed C’ships: Oyinlomo Quadre bows out; Adetayo seeks to aim higher

Oyinlomo Quadre, on Monday, was knocked out of the ongoing ITF/CAT African Junior Closed Championships in Marrakech, Morocco, while her compatriot Adetayo Adetunji, with an ITF Junior Circuit ranking of 384, will be in action today.

The tournament, which is played on clay at the Royal Tennis Club De Marrakech, kicked off on Monday, 12 March, and saw the participation of two Nigerians.

Oyinlomo Quadre, who made it to the third round in last year’s edition, fell short this year as she bowed out in the first round. The 14-year-old was edged by 17-year-old Sara El Ghazouly, who’s competing in her eight tournament already this year.

Despite the loss, Quadre still garnered 10 points in the ITF Junior Circuit. The Nigerian youngster’s current ranking of 946 will receive a boost of 6 points.

Meanwhile, 17-year-old Adetayo Adetunji, will seek to better her last year’s performance where she got ousted in the first round, when she takes on home favourite and second seed Diae El Jardi. This will be the Egyptian’s third tourney this year compared to Adetayo’s four.

In the doubles event played on Monday, the Nigerian pair were narrowly edged by the duo of Ines Bachir El Bouhali and Sara Rakim, who secured a 6-4, 5-7 [10-5] victory.

The championship event which started on Monday, 12 will run through to Saturday, 17 March.
