Defending champion, Abdulmumin Babalola defeated Uche Oparaoji to reach the final of the 40th edition of the CBN Senior Open.
Babalola, who’s yet to drop a set so far, made light work of Oparaoji as he registered a 6-1, 6-3 in Abuja today, Friday.
The 33-year-old, who was the captain of the Nigerian team to this year’s Davis Cup in Kenya will play Sylvester Emmanuel, who also participated in the Davis, in Saturday’s final.
Emmanuel, popularly known as Major, fell behind early on and lost the opening set to Clifford Enosoregbe, but stung back into the action to beat the former national champion, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 and reach the final for the first time since 2016.
Emmanuel will go all out for his maiden CBN Senior Open title when he faces Abdulmumin Babalola, who’ll be seekjng to lift his fifth CBN Open title in nine years, on Sunday.
In the women’s semis, defending champion Sarah Adegoke eased into the final with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Patience Onebamhoin and will play Christie Agugbom, who put up a determined performance to edge Blessing Samuel 5-7, 7-6(4), 6-3.
The winners on Saturday will cart away N700,000, while the runners-up will pocket N500,000.
