Berdych Retains Shenzhen Title

Tomas Berdych claimed his first title of the season with a 7-6 6-7 6-2 victory over Frenchman, Richard Gasquet in the final of the Shenzhen Open on Sunday.

The 31-year-old Berdych missed the US Open because of appendicitis, but he has wasted little time in hitting his strides, retaining the title he won in Shenzhen last year.

Berdych is seeking a strong finish to year, as he looks to get into the prestigious ATP World Tour finals in London, reserved for the top 8 players at the end of the season.

The big Czech is currently ninth in the Race to London, just 330 points off eight-placed Rafael Nadal.

Elsewhere on the ATP tour, highly-rated Russian, Karen Khachanov secured his first ever tour title with victory over Spaniard, Albert Ramos-Vinollas in the final of the inaugural Chengdu Open.

The 20-year-old Khachanov sent down 14 aces as he recovered from a set down to earn a 6-7 7-6 6-3 victory.
