The organizers of The Tournoi de Québec also known as National Bank Cup announced on Friday that Eugenie Bouchard has withdrawn from the tournament because of a virus.
“We are extremely disappointed to announce to you that Eugenie Bouchard has withdrawn from The Tournoi de Québec, because of a virus,” a statement from the organisers read.
Bouchard released a statement of her own stating her disappointment – “I am extremely disappointed to have to withdraw from the National Bank Cup, because it’s a tournament that I enjoy and I am always motivated to play at home in front of the Quebec crowd.”
Bouchard, who is ranked 76th in the world, made the semi-finals of the tournament four years ago.
The organizers have announced that World No. 178 Marina Erakovic will replace Bouchard in the main draw.
Océane Dodin won the last edition of the tounament which was held in 2016.
Maria Sharapova and Kirsten Flipkens are amongst past winners of the competition.
The tournament begins next week on the campus of Laval University.
