CBN Open: Joseph Imeh, Abdulmumin Babalola, Sylvester Emmanuel headline first round action in Abuja

Main Draws action gets underway today, Monday at the Tennis Complex of the National Stadium in Abuja with the big guns ready to make strong statements in their bids to secure the first national title of the year.

2017 finalist, Joseph Imeh will look to get off to a good start when he takes on old boy, Taiwo Owolabi in the first round, while second seed and defending champion, Abdulmumin Babalola will face Henry John. In the same half, Rainoil-sponsored Sylvester Emmanuel will lock horns with Isaac Attah as former national champion, Henry Atseye faces Benjamin Chiwendu. Veteran, Shehu Lawal squares off against Christopher Itodo.

Christian Paul, who only just returned from representing Nigeria at the Davis Cup in Kenya, will fancy his chances against Amos Michael and could potentially face Mexico-based Christopher Bulus in the third round. Bulus, however, would have to get past qualifier, Adewale Samson first.

Dala Hard Court champion, Thomas Otu, who’s seeded third, will play Peter Lawal, while Clifford Enosoregbe will hope to use his experience to his advantage when he takes on qualifier, Matthew Akor.

In the women’s draw, Afolarin Akosile will have a mountain to surmount when she takes on defending champion, Sarah Adegoke, while 4-time Dala Hard Court winner, Blessing Samuel faces Omotayo Osewa.

Veteran, Christie Agugbom will play Favour Moses in what will be a ‘Battle of Generations’.

The CBN Senior Open will hold from Monday, 25 June to Saturday, 30 June.
