Alizé Cornet and Dominika Cibulkova will slug it out in Day 4 of the Connecticut Open.
Having met nine times before, Cibulkova leads 6-3. They most recently faced off in Cincinnati, where Cibulkova won in straight sets 6-1, 6-4.
Top seed Agnieszka Radwanska will take on No.8 seed Shuai Peng, who eased past Mirjana Lucic-Baroni 6-2, 6-3, for a spot in the semifinals.
Peng recovered from a nasty backwards tumble behind the baseline late in the second set to close out the match in one hour and 18 minutes.
Rave of the moment Zhang Shuai, will be up against familiar foe Magda Linette.
The Chinese has a perfect record against Linette, winning both their previous encounters.
They played each other in Birmingham earlier this year, where Zhang won 7-5, 7-5.
Zhang knocked out three-time New Haven champion Petra Kvitova in the previous round.
Spain’s Carla Suárez Navarro will face World No. 20 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
Carla Suárez Navarro took her spot in the second round of the Connecticut Open, after Slovakian qualifier Jana Cepelova retired from the match due to a right thigh injury, with a final score of 6-4, 4-0, ret.
Pavlyuchenkova made it to this stage of the competiton by dispatching 25-year-old American, Christina McHale 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.
