It’s Monday and hostilities are set to get underway at the National Stadium in Abuja.

Home players will team up with their respective partners to go all out for doubles glory, while Nigerian-Irish, Adebola Obasoto looks to get the better of Zimbabwean, Takanyi Garanganga.

Veteran Abdulmumuni Babalola will team up with Diego Fernandez Flores to take on the Egyptian duo of Youseff Hossam and Karim-Mohammed Maamoun. Babalola is partnering with the 17-year-old Chilean for the first time on the ITF Circuit. It will be the Nigerian’s first match on the ITF Circuit this year and he’ll also be teaming up with a player, who’s yet to register a win this season. Difficult task?

In another match, the Nigerian duo of Emmanuel Audu and Michael Michael will fancy their chances of making the quarterfinals when they take on the Japanese pair of Kazuma Kawachi and Kento Takeuchi, while the winners of the doubles event of the Tombim Abuja Open, Markus Eriksson and Maximilian Neuchrist will hope they can get off to a flying start when they come up against the French pair of Jamiee Floyd Angele and Tom Jomby.

In the singles event, Adebola Obasoto faces a tough test in Zimbabwe’s Takanyi Garanganga. The 27-year-old Garanganga has had quite a time on Tour this year, featuring in two Challenger events in Japan before a fair run to the Round of 16 in Abuja at the Tombim Abuja Open. Obasoto, on the other hand, is playing in only his second match this year- the first was at the qualifying event of the Tombim Open, where he lost 6-1, 6-2 to Sylvester Emmanuel. Obasoto is however, confident of snatching a win.

When asked about playing Garanganga, the 17-year-old simply said, “I will beat him.” This is one to look forward to, certainly!
