Kaduna-based Favour Moses finally got her breakthrough after four years on the ITA Junior Tennis Circuit when she beat second seed Toyin Asogba to reach the final of the Girls’ 16 event of the 2018 CBN Junior Tennis Championship at the National Stadium in Lagos.
Moses raced to a 4-0 lead early on against Asogba, who, last year, was the only girl besides Angel Mcleod to beat Marylove Edwards, the Nigerian sensation, who’s currently building her career at the IMG Academy in Florida. Although, Asogba attempted a comeback, Moses held firm to win 9-5.
Moses will meet another first time finalist in Omolade Aderemi, who made light work of Ibadan-native Kasara Adegboyega, winning 9-2.
The Boys 10 & Under top seed Seun Ogunsakin from Ekiti ended an anticipated twin brothers’ final when he beat Praise Ikeuba 9-3 in the second semifinal. Praise’s twin, Precious had earlier secured a place in the final with a 9-0 dismantling of Jade Nzewi of the VGC Club, Lagos.
The other finalists are Gabriel Friday from Kaduna, who meets Mathew Abamu from Lagos in the Boys’ 16.
Daniel Adeleye, will square off against Rivers State’s Friday Victor in the Boys’ 14 and Oiza Yakubu from Lagos will lock horns with Chidinma Ezeh from Anambra in the Girls’ 14.
In the Boys’ 12 final, hard-hitting Ibadan-native Ganiyu Mubarak plays Philip Pyagbara from Port Harcourt, while the Girls’ 12 final features Esther Oni of Ibadan and Imole Afolabi of Lagos.
The final holds today at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan, Lagos.
