Joao Menezes of Brazil and India’s Arjun Kadhe will square off in the final of the GSL Open. This final match will bring to an end three weeks of gripping tennis action that has lit up the city of Abuja.
Joao Menezes must be feeling untouchable. What he’s done in Abuja is unprecedented! After beating Moez Echargui of Tunisia in Friday’s semifinals, the Brazilian became the first player ever to reach the finals of the three ITF Futures event in Abuja, consecutively.
The 22-year-old has absolutely dominated the ITF Futures event in the nation’s capital. His only stain, however, was in the final of the Dayak Tennis Championship where he lost to Maximilian Neuchrist, a player he’d beaten in the quarterfinals of the previous leg – the Tombim Abuja Open. He beat the Austrian again in the quarterfinals this week en route to the final to show and has now won 13 of the 14 matches he’s played in!
The Tombim Open champion is surely riding a wave of confidence at the moment and certainly, has his sights fixed on another title triumph. Arjun Kadhe however, stands in his path.
Kadhe, the fourth-seeded Indian, is a force to be reckoned with, also. Having picked up a title in India in March, coupled with some brilliant runs to the finals of ITF Futures tourneys in his home country, you dare not rule out the 24-year-old.
It will be a first time encounter between the two players and it promises to be intense!
Will Joao Menezes go on to finish an extraordinary three weeks in Abuja with another title? Or will Arjun Kadhe stop the Brazilian in his tracks and achieve glory?
This match is live from the Tennis Complex of the National Stadium in Abuja from 3pm Nigerian Time.
