Spaniard, Enrique Lopez-Perez completed the Governor’s Cup double with a 7-5 7-5 victory over Frenchman, Calvin Hemery at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club on Saturday.
The top seed had defeated another Frenchman, Gianni Mina to win the first leg a week ago, and he repeated the trick against Hemery, closing out a hard-fought victory in an hour and 46 minutes.
Lopez-Perez sent down 13 aces during the contest, converting 5 of 12 break points to edge out his 21-year-old opponent.
Just as it was in the first leg, Lopez-Perez teamed up with Dutchman, Boy Westerhof to take the men’s doubles’ crown, thus completing a clean sweep of titles in Lagos.
The women’s singles’ title went to Switzerland’s Conny Perrin, who defeated Slovenian, Tadeja Majeric 6-3 6-3 in Saturday’s final.
Unlike the scoreline suggests, this wasn’t a straightforward afternoon for Perrin, who came up big at the crucial moments to hold off her Slovenian adversary.
Majeric had beaten Perrin in the final of the first leg, but the Swiss dug deep to reverse her fortunes this time around, saving nine of 12 break points to fend off Majeric in the one hour 41-minute encounter.
