Nadal Crashes out of Shanghai Masters

Former world number one, Rafael Nadal crashed out of the Shanghai Masters after a 6-3 7-6 loss to Serbia’s Victor Troicki.

Troicki had not beaten Nadal in five previous attempts, but the Serbian was rewarded for a brave performance on Wednesday, sealing a fine win after an hour and 34 minutes.

The defeat puts Nadal’s bid to qualify for the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals on hold, but the Spaniard remains in a¬†good position to earn a berth in London, after his closest rivals, Tomas Berdych and Marin Cilic also suffered early losses.

Last week’s China Open champion, Andy Murray had no problems in a 6-3 6-2 dispatch of American, Steve Johnson, while Stan Wawrinka was far too good for British number 2, Kyle Edmund, closing out a 6-3 6-4 victory in just over an hour.
