During the weekend, Team Ndoma-Egba kept a clean slate as they pummelled Team Yetade 7-0 at the Trade Fair Complex, Ekiti, in their NCC Tennis League clash.
The win moved Team Ndoma-Egba up to 2nd place with 3 points in the White Group standings, and with a win-loss game differential of 18-10, thereby, increasing their chances of qualifying for the semis.
Thomas Otu started the rout as he defeated Team Yetade’s Michael Olajimbite 6-1, 6-4 in the 1st Men’s Singles, while Emmanuel Paul trounced Opeyemi Odeyemi of Team Yetade 6-1, 6-0 in the 2nd Men’s Singles.
In the Ladies Singles, Aanu Aiyegbusi who’s ranked sixth in the NCC women’s ranking, continued the battering as she subjected Yetade’s Omolayo Bamidele to a 6-1, 6-3 defeat.
Taiwo Owolabi and Sanni Adamu then teamed up to defeat Team Yetade’s pair of Ayodeji Omodara and Opeyemi Odeyemi 6-4, 6-2 in the Men’s Doubles.
The 1st Reverse Singles saw Abayomi Odeyemi of Team Yetade take on former national champion, Thomas Out in an entertaining, albeit nervy game that spanned three sets. Thomas edged Abayomi 6-3 in the 1st set, but narrowly lost the 2nd set 6(6)-7(8).
He then bounced back to win the tie-break 10-8, giving his team a 5-0 lead.
Emmanuel Paul also, edged Ayodeji Omodara 6-4, 6-2 in the 2nd Reverse Singles.
In the final game of the weekend, the Mixed Doubles, the duo of Sanni Adamu and Rose Abu completed the rout as they defeated Team Yetade’s pair of Opeyemi Odeyemi and Akosile Afolarin 6-2, 6-4.
The defeat leaves Team Yetade stuck at the bottom of the group without a point, having not won a single match so far this season, and also with a poor win-loss game differential of 3-25.
