Team Ndoma-Egba sealed their semi-final qualification over the weekend when they thrashed visitors, Team Goshen 6-1 at the National Stadium in Abuja, dashing the hopes of Jos-based Team TechVibe who had hoped for a Goshen win to qualify.
Former national champion, Thomas Otu got the host Team on the way as he condemned Wale Babalola to a 6-3, 6-2 defeat in the 1st Men’s Singles, and Paul Emmanuel increased the tally with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Joseph Adim in the 2nd Men’s Singles.
Aanu Aiyegbusi survived a long drawn second set in the Ladies Singles match to beat Team Goshen’s Patience Onebamhoin 6-0, 7-5.
The host left nothing to chance as they fielded two former national champions in the Men’s Doubles, as Thomas Otu and Sunday Maku combined to defeat Team Goshen’s pair of Joseph Adim and Chima Iwuagu 6-3, 6-4, thereby establishing an unassailable lead with three matches to go.
In the 1st Reverse Singles, Thomas Otu edged Joseph Adim 7-5, 7-6(2), and Paul Emmanuel defeated Team Goshen’s Niyi Ibiwoye 6-4, 6-2 in the 2nd Reverse Singles.
Team Goshen gave their fans something to smile about in the Mixed Doubles as the pair of Chinedu Iwuagu and Patience Onebamhoin beat Ndoma-Egba’s duo of Taiwo Owolabi and Osariemen Airhunmwunde 6-4 in the first set, and were 1-0 up in the second before Team Ndoma-Egba’s duo retired.
With 4 points, Team Ndoma-Egba now place second behind defending champions Team Offikwu.
The semifinal matches have been scheduled to hold at the Enugu Sports Club Saturday, 18 November and Sunday, 19 November and in Abuja Saturday, 2 December and Sunday, 3 December.
