Czech’s Petra Kvitova defeated Kiki Bertens of the Netherlands 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 to win a historic third Madrid Open title on Saturday.
Kvitova, who also won the Madrid title in 2011 and 2015, becomes the first woman to win the tournament three times.
It’s also a second straight title for the world no. 10, who lifted a title in Prague last week.
Kvitova, after her title triumph, announced her decision to withdraw from the Italian Open next week despite being scheduled to play on Monday against Johanna Konta.
In the Men’s semis, Dominic Thiem defeated Kevin Anderson 6-4, 6-2 to set up a crunch final clash with Alexander Zverev, who defeated Denis Shapovalov 6-4, 6-1.
