The country’s no. 1 player, Abdulmumuni Babalola unsurprisingly thrashed qualifier Osuebi Bishop 6-1, 6-0, while Barcelona-based Sylvester Emmanuel sacked another qualifier, Musa Bala 6-2, 6-4 to advance.
Edo-state born Clifford Enosorogbe made light work of Wild Card benefactor, Isaac Attah, winning 6-1, 6-1, while Henry Atseye also, beat Abayomi Philip 6-1, 6-1.
Youngster, Joseph Imeh would not be left behind as he put up a spirited performance to edge Nonso Madueke 7-5, 6-4 to progress.
In the Women’s Singles, Female’s no. 1, Sarah Adegoke whitewashed Odeyemi Ramota 6-0, 6-0, while Aminat Quadri beat Amara Nwokolo 6-4, 7-5.
Veteran, Christie Agugbom thrashed qualifier Temitope Fashanu 6-0, 6-1, while Ronke Akingbade joined the train with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Stella Udokwelu.
4 times Dala Hard Court champion Blessing Samuel defeated Osariemen Airhunmwunde 7-5, 2-6, 7-5 to also advance to the second round.
In the Men’s Doubles, there were a couple of identical results; the tag team of Henry Atseye and Nonso Madueke defeated the duo of Sani Adamu and Musa Bala 6-4, 6-4, while Clifford Enosorogbe and Sylvester Emmanuel beat the pair of Ismaila Sikiru and Sola Alalade 6-4, 6-4.
The Rainoil Tennis Open continues today at the Lagos Country Club, Ikeja and promises some exciting showdowns.
