Nigeria’s No.1 and defending champion, Sarah Adegoke outclassed Ebere Fortune to ease into the quarterfinals of the Rainoil Open, while second seed and last year’s finalist, Blessing Samuel proved too much for Osariemen Airhunwunde.
Adegoke, a favourite for the title, registered a 6-2, 6-2 win over Fortune and will next face Bunmi Are, who defeated Omolayo Bamidele 7-5, 1-6, 6-3.
In the bottom half of the draw, Blessing Samuel remained on course for back-to-back national titles with a 6-1, 6-0 demolition of Osariemen Airhunwunde.
Elsewhere, youngster, Oiza Yakubu continued her impressive run by beating Oluchi Ozurumba 6-7, 6-1, 6-4 — her second victory in as many days over a senior player, having defeated veteran Omotayo Osewa 6-2, 4-6, 10-3 in the first round.
Oiza will however, have her work cut out for her when she takes on former national champion, Christie Agugbom, who soundly defeated Mary Tenu-Michael 6-1, 6-0, for a place in the semis.
Patience Onebamhoin dismissed Mary Udoffa 6-1, 6-2 and will next face Aanu Aiyegbusi, who progressed after Bukola Olowu retired with Aiyegbusi leading 5-0 in the opening set.
