Less than 48 hours after killing off Roger Federer’s bid for a seventh Australian Open title, Stefanos Tsitsipas defeats Roberto Bautista-Agut 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(2) to become the youngest man to reach a Grand Slam semifinal since Novak Djokovic at the US Open in 2007.
The 20-year-old Greek sealed victory in three hours and 15 minutes to continue his fairytale run Down Under and will hope to keep it going when he takes on either Rafael Nadal or Frances Tiafoe in the semifinals.
“It all feels like a fairytale almost. I’m just living the dream, living what I’ve been working for,” the youngster said.
“I feel a bit emotional but not too much because I know I really worked hard to get here.”
Tsitsipas is now the youngest man to reach the semifinals of the Australian Open since Andy Roddick 16 years ago.
