It was another beautiful weekend in the NCC Tennis League as the need to earn bragging rights was taken to the Port Harcourt Club, Rivers State.
Team Kalotari hosted Team VGC Lions at their home ground, the Port Harcourt Club from August 26th to Sunday, August 27th, in what was thoroughly a one-sided affair.
In the first match of the Men’s Singles, Christian Paul of Team Kalotari faced Onyeka Mbaru of Team VGC Lions.
Christian Paul quickly rounded up the first set 6-2, and was up 3-2 in the second set before VGC Lions’ Onyeka Mbaru retired due to injury.
Team Kalotari were 1-0 up.
The second match of the Men’s Singles saw Emmanuel Sunday of Team Kalotari being pitted against Martins Abamu of Team VGC Lions.
Emmanuel took the first set 6-3 and prevented the match from going into its third set by putting in extra firepower to narrowly take the second set 7-6(5).
In the Ladies’ Singles, Blessing Samuel of Team Kalotari totally outclassed Donatus Lovett of Team VGC Lions 6-1, 6-1. Blessing Samuel was ruthless from start to finish as Team VGC’s Lovett failed to provide a response.
That win put Team Kalotari 3-0 up against Team VGC Lions.
In the Men’s Doubles which was the fourth match, Christian Paul and Emmanuel Sunday of Team Kalotari teamed up to take on George Abamu and Martins Abamu of Team VGC Lions in what was a show of sheer strength and team fire.

The Mixed Doubles which was the 7th and final match was between Christian Paul and Blessing Samuel of Team Kalotari and Martin Abamu and Donatus Lovett of Team VGC Lions.
And for the first time in six matches, Team VGC Lions came out on top in a set. They won the first set 6-2, but the reverse was the case as Team Kalotari’s Christian and Blessing took the second 6-2 to take the match to its third set for the first time that weekend. Team VGC Lions put up a challenge in the third set but couldn’t do enough as Christian and Blessing took the tie decider 12-10 to win the match.
At the end of the weekend duel, it was Team Kalotari who earned the bragging rights and more as they tore Team VGC Lions apart to get a final score of 7-0. Team Kalotari have now kept a 100% record in the league so far having not lost a single; they thrashed Team Optiweb 7-0 in Week 2 at the Kwara Stadium – Ilorin.
