Team Muller subjected visitors, Team VGC Lions to another humiliating 7-0 defeat at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos in their NCC Tennis League match during the weekend.
Team VGC Lions were on the back of three consecutive loses coming into the match including a recent 7-0 drubbing at the hands of Team Civil Defence.
Team Muller, meanwhile, now sit comfortably atop the Blue Group log with 4 points, having not lost a single match so far, while Team VGC Lions are 5th on the log with just 1 point from 4 games. Their only win of the season coming against Team Oluyole.
In the first match of the Men’s Singles, Mohammed Mohammed of Team Muller was pitted against VGC Lion’s Onyeka Mbanu in a match that spanned three sets. Mohammed breezed through the 1st set 6-3, before going down 6-2 in the 2nd. In the 3rd set, Mohammed regained composure to thrash Onyeka 6-1 to win the match.
In the second match, Team Muller’s Emmanuel Idoko edged Martins Abamu 7-5, 6-1, while Ronke Akingbade of Team Muller totally outclassed Loveth Donatus to win the Ladies Singles 6-1, 6-0.
In the Men’s Doubles, Team Muller’s pair of Mohammed Mohammed and fast rising star, Joseph Imeh made light work of Pius Aneikan and Tobi Thomas to win 6-2, 6-2 and gave their team a 4-0 victory for the day.
The following day, Popoola Jelili of Team Muller beat VGC Lion’s Coach Benson in the 1st Reverse Singles 6-4, 6-3, while Onyeka Mbanu fell to another defeat at the hands of Muller’s Joseph Imeh, losing 6-1, 6-4.
In the last match, the Mixed Doubles, Mohammed Mohammed teamed up with Deborah Gbadamosi to complete the rout as they beat the duo Loveth Donatus and Martins Abamu (Team VGC Lions) 6-3, 6-4.
