Teams and Players Awarded at NCC Tennis Cup Grande Finale

Aside the prize monies awarded to Teams who took the first, second, third and fourth places in the just concluded 2017 NCC Tennis League, other teams received awards and players got individual awards, too, which was endowed by the MTN.

Among the biggest winners were Team Muller’s Joseph Imeh who received the award for the Most Outstanding Player (male) in recognition of his brilliant displays all through the season, and Sarah Adegoke of Team Offikwu as the Most Outstanding Player (female) as she did not lose a match in the entire series.

Other awardees are:

-Most Improved Player (female) – Patience Onebamhoin (Team Goshen)

-Most Outstanding Player of the Competition – Ikechukwu Iloputa (Team Kalotari).

-The Most Outstanding Junior category was won by Marylove Edwards and Emmanuel Jebutu.

The last awards endowed by Main One Ltd were for the Best Host and Best Away teams.

Team Goshen of Ilorin won the best host award, while newcomers, Team Tech Vibe of Jos won the best away team award.

Smile Communications also chipped in with MIFIs for winning teams, giving them unlimited access to the internet on their road trips in 2018.

Speaking after the award ceremony, Mr. Tobe Okigbo, Corporate Relations Executive, MTN Nigeria, said that the Company’s involvement in the competition was in line the value addition and youth’s talent development agenda of MTN.

“We like supporting value addition projects. In this case (NCC Tennis Cup competition), we saw that what NCC is doing and it makes a lot of sense to be part of it. We saw it as an opportunity to support ambitious young Nigerians, especially in developing their skills and talents,” Mr. Okigbo said.

Also, part of activities at the event was a special tribute to late Chief Alex Ekwueme, former vice president of Nigeria and a lover of Tennis; who passed on recently.

To this end, the Executive Vice Chairman of NCC said, “He played tennis until his last days and is a known lover of the game who contributed immensely to the development of the sport”.
