Plenty of third round actions from the French Open in Paris. As always, here are the top three best bets for the day:
Dominic Thiem vs Matteo Berrettini (3 sets at 1.50 on Nairabet), ATP French Open, R3
A straight sets victory for Thiem is on the cards here. The famed Prince of Clay has made the semifinals in the last two editions, unlike Berrettini, who’s playing in the main draw of a Grand Slam for only the second time, having got into the main draw at the Australian Open as a lucky loser. The Italian has only won just one match on clay on the ATP main Tour.
It’s a first meeting between the two and the difference in experience is just too obvious. While the Italian’s success has come from the Challenger Series, Thiem is well-established on the main Tour. This should not be a problem for the Austrian. Straight sets and we’re good!
Novak Djokovic to beat Roberto Bautista-Agut at 1.20 on Nairabet, ATP French Open, R3
Novak Djokovic continues to impress and show flashes of brilliance, ones that once saw him at the zenith of men’s tennis. He’s posting his best results since his return from injury.
Djokovic and Bautista-Agut have met seven times in the past, and Djokovic has beaten him in six of those. Bautista-Agut has started quite well in Paris, too, but hasn’t had any deep run in a Grand Slam event before. And with Djokovic showing flashes of consistency alongside his dominance against the Spaniard, you can’t help but give him the edge here.
Naomi Osaka to beat Madison Keys at 2.15 on Nairabet, WTA French Open, R3
Madison Keys has beaten Naomi Osaka in their two previous meetings; 2016 and 2017. However, that was then. We’re witnessing a different Japanese from last year’s. Osaka has played really well this season and can really be a tough opponent to play against. She’s beaten Serena Williams, Simona Halep and other top players this year. Keys hasn’t had that kind of success.
I’m backing Osaka for the win here. A better player than Keys this season and the need for a revenge will see her take this one. 2.15 for that is just perfect!
