Tennis action continues today, Thursday around Europe and Asia, with some mouthwatering match-ups on the cards.
While players at the Vienna Open and Swiss Indoors will seek to seal a quarterfinal berth today, group stage action at WTA Finals heats up in Singapore and we have the top four betting tips from across board.
Dominic Thiem to beat Sam Querrey at 1.46 on Bet9ja. ATP Vienna Open, Round of 16.
Following a quarterfinal showing at the US Open, Austria’s Dominic Thiem made a sensational title-winning run at the Petersburg Open in September. Despite failing to get past the first hurdle at the Shanghai Masters earlier this month, the seventh-ranked Austrian has returned to winning ways in Vienna, edging Ruben Bemelmans in straight sets in the opening round.
Querrey, meanwhile, has had an up and down season. Per recent form, the American failed to get past the first round of the US Open and only made it to the quarterfinals of the Chengdu Open after that. First round and third round exits at the China Open and Shanghai Masters, respectively, followed.
These two have played each other thrice, with Thiem leading the head-to-head 2-1. The Austrian also bagged the win in their most recent encounter in 2017. Given his recent form, I fancy Thiem notching another victory over Querrey. And 1.45 for that is just okay!
Roger Federer vs Jan-Lennard Struff (2 sets at 1.34 on Bet9ja) ATP R16, Swiss Indoors
Aside from the Swiss Indoors in Basel being one of Federer’s most favorite grounds, the world No.3 has also dominated Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff in previous encounters.
After enduring a difficult opening round win against Filip Krajinovic, Federer will be seeking for a smoother sail this time. The eight-time winner in Basel has beaten Struff in all two of their previous meetings and will almost certainly increase the head-to-head record. Struff enjoyed an easy first round win against John Milman, but I don’t think he’ll be able to put up with Federer’s antics. 2 sets will decide this encounter and at 1.34 on Bet9ja, this is a good pick!
Alexei Popyrin vs Alexander Zverev (2 sets at 1.25 on Bet9ja) ATP R16, Swiss Indoors
Australian qualifier Alexei Popyrin will take on second-seeded Alexander Zverev in the Round of 16 in Basel. This will be a first-time meeting between these two and the gulf of experience between them is staggering. While Zverev is among the big guns on the ATP Tour, Popyrin mainly struts his stuff in the Challenger Series. The Australian, though, has been quite impressive so far in Basel, coming through the qualifying rounds and then beating his countryman, Matthew Ebden in straight sets in the first round to set up this clash with Zverev, who was rock solid against Robin Haase.
Popysil does not have the game to challenge Zverev and there could not have been an easier second round match-up for the German. This will be decided in two sets and 1.25 for that is even generous.
Caroline Wozniacki vs Elina Svitolina (3 sets at 2.30 on Bet9ja) WTA Finals, Singapore
Caroline Wozniacki and Elina Svitolina clash in the group stage of the WTA Finals in Singapore. Svitolina won her last two matches in the round robin group- against Petra Kvitova and Karolina Pliskova, while Wozniacki bounced back from a first match loss to Pliskova to beat Petra Kvitova in three.
Both women have played each other four times, with Svitolina holding a 3-1 lead. Their most recent meeting, however, went Wozniacki’s way, and it was at this same stage in 2017.
Svitolina is in great form at the moment and will only need to take a set off Wozniacki to reach the semis. For Wozniacki, though, this is a must-win match. I fancy this to be closely fought for and be decided in three sets. 2.30 for that on Bet9ja is a big one.
