First round and second round actions continue at the Madrid Open across the men’s and women’s field. As always, here are our top three betting tips for today:
Hyeon Chung to beat Robin Haase at 1.35 on Nairabet, ATP Madrid Open, R1
Hyeon Chung and Robin Haase will square off in the first round of the Madrid Open today.
1.35 for South Korea’s Hyeon Chung to beat Robin Haase is really, a good pick. The South Korean is having a good year. He’s made the quarterfinals or more in all tournaments he’s played in this year, save the Brisbane International, early January. At the Bavarian International last week, he was only bettered by eventual champion, Alexander Zverev in the semis. I don’t think Robin Haase, who’s on the back of three defeats in a row, would be able to reply Chung, who’s clearly the better player, in this one. Back Chung for the win at 1.35 on Nairabet.
Philipp Kohlschreiber vs Yuichi Sugita (2 sets at 1.40 on Nairabet), ATP Madrid Open, R1
Philip Kohlschreiber of German will take on Japan’s Yuichi Sugita in the first round of the Madrid Open.
At the moment, Kohlschreiber is in good form. The German posted an impressive run to the final of the Bavarian International last week and didn’t lose a set until that final where he lost to his compatriot, Alexander Zverev. Japan’s Sugita, meanwhile, is on a six-match losing streak. The Japanese has had a poor start to the year and really cannot stand up to his German opponent at the moment. This match will be decided in two sets. 1.40 on Nairabet for that is clean!
Simona Halep vs Elise Mertens (Over 20.5 games at 1.85 on Nairabet), WTA Madrid Open, R2
Top seed Simona Halep will be in action in the second round of Madrid Open, where she will be taking on Belgian heavyweight, Elise Mertens.
Halep, who’s still in search of a first title this year, breezed past Ekaterina Makarova 6-1, 6-0 in the first round. However, this second round match will be a tough test for her as she’s up against a difficult opponent. Mertens, has had quite an interesting year so far. The Belgian is fresh off back-to-back titles at the Samsung Open and the Morocco Open, alongside a very impressive Australian Open campaign back in January.
I fancy Mertens putting up a very strong display as well as Halep hitting really well. This should be a closely fought contest. And I’m backing this to go Over 20.5 games. 1.85 for that is just perfect!
