Tombim Abuja Open: Nigerian players turn attention to doubles event

After falling short in their respective singles matches on Tuesday, Joseph Imeh and Sylvester Emmanuel, who are the only Nigerians left in the tournament, now turn their attention to the doubles event of the Tombim Abuja Open.

The duo of Joseph Imeh and Zimbabwe’s Takanyi Garanganga will have a semifinals berth in sight when take on Indians, Aryan Goveas and Karunuday Singh not before 2:30pm on Court 1, while Franco Feitt and Danylo Kalenichenko square off against Markus Eriksson and Maximilian Neuchrist on Centre Court.

Sylvester Emmanuel and Tukhula Jacobs of Namibia will hope for a brilliant combination when they lock horns with French duo, Remi Boutillier and Tom Jomby on Court 5.

Should Emmanuel and Jacobs beat the Frenchmen, they’ll face the hard-hitting Sebanov brothers- Ivan and Mateo in the semifinals, that’s provided the Croatians defeat the French-speaking pair of Akexis Klegou and Thomas Setodji in today’s encounter.

In the singles, Sweden’s Markus Eriksson will hope to continue his fine run of form when he kick starts the day’s action against Alexis Klegou of Benin at 10am on Centre Court, while second seed, Maximilian Neuchrist takes on Dalwinder Singh same time on Court 1.

Takanyi Garanganga will have Stephan Gerritsen, who defeated Joseph Imeh in Tuesday’s first round match, to contend with. Elsewhere, Namibia’s Tukhula Jacobs faces Remi Boutillier for a place in the quarterfinals.
