The qualifying event for the first of the ITF Futures, the Tombim Abuja Open, will get underway today at the National Stadium in Abuja.
A lot of Nigerians will be vying for a place in the Main Draws, which will kick-off on Monday 16, when they lock horns with their countymen as well as foreign counterparts in the first round.
Barcelona-based Sylvester Emmanuel, popularly known as Major, will seek to make the main draws of the tournament when he squares off against Ireland-based Nigerian, Adebola Obasoto. The winner of this match will lock horns with fifth-seeded Lebanese, Giovani Samaha in round two of qualifying.
Nigeria’s no.1 Joseph Imeh knows he has to get past Chile’s Diego Fernandez Flores in the first round of qualifying and also beat Anurag Nenwani of India in the second round to make the Main Draws.
Former national champion, Clifford Enosoregbe will lock horns with countryman Emmanuel Audu for a chance to make the second round, while Emmanuel Idoko will slug it out with another Indian, Vinod Sridhar.
Taiwo Owolabi completes the list of Nigerians playing in the first round of qualifying today. The veteran will face Hardeep Singh Sandhu of India.
