Throughout the US open, we will be giving daily betting tips and checking out what different betting companies are offering. We start with Merrybet today- they got some very good options, at very good odds too. Make sure you check them out!
Since this is the first edition of the series, let’s pick out potential champions before looking at today’s matches.
I think Roger Federer will win the US Open- he has already won two Grand Slam titles this year, and claimed Masters 1000 crowns at Indian Wells and Miami. The one big question mark around him is his fitness. Remember, the great man was forced out of the Cincinnati Masters because of a back injury. However, Federer arguably looks after his body better than anyone else on the tour, and if he says he is fit enough to play, then I believe him!
Merrybet is offering Federer at 2.65 as at the time of writing, which isn’t bad. It basically guarantees that you get about two and a half times your money. Good business in my book!
Rafael Nadal is at 4.00, but I don’t think Nadal will go all the way at Flushing Meadows. He hasn’t done much since winning Roland Garros, and hasn’t won a hard court title since January 2014. I’m not going anywhere near him!
I like Alexander Zverev at 5.75, he is in the easier half of the draw, and has been good form, having won titles in Washington and Montreal in the lead up to the US Open. If he can find his way to a final against Federer or Nadal, you just never know.
And if you are like me, and you like a risk or two, why not opt for Grigor Dimitrov? The Bulgarian reached the Australian Open semi-final earlier in the year, and found some form with a title-winning run in Cincinnati. I think he will have a big fortnight. He is at 15.00 on Merrybet.
In the women’s draw, Garbine Muguruza is a fantastic pick at a generous 5.25 on Merrybet. I am absolutely jumping at that! Muguruza stormed to the Wimbledon title in July, and signaled her readiness for the US Open with another dominant run in Cincinnati. For me, she is the woman to beat!
There are some very good odds in the women’s draw- Simona Halep looks tempting at 11.50, but I do not trust her ability to deliver under pressure- not going near that one. I’d rather go for Johanna Konta at a similar 11.50, and Venus Williams, at 19.75 is worth a gamble. Remember, the veteran American has already made two Grand Slam finals this year.
To access the odds, go to merrrybet.com, click the ‘Tennis’ option from the sports menu on the left, click on ‘Outrights’ under ATP or WTA for the men’s and women’s draw respectively, and get exposed to the wonderful world of money-making possibilities! You should register, of course!
So let’s check out today’s matches.
I’m a big fan of the Over/Under odds on Merrybet- so let’s stick to that for today. Here are five good shouts:
Venus Williams vs Viktoria Kuzmova (Under 18.5) at 1.70 on Merrybet.
Kuzmova is playing her first ever WTA main draw match in the biggest stadium in the world against one of the greatest players of the modern game. I don’t think she is getting up to seven games against Venus.
Caroline Wozniacki vs Mihaela Buzarnescu (Under 18.5 at 1.75)
Wozniacki is the expert at putting relative unknowns to the sword in early rounds. Again, I will be shocked if the Dane spares her Romanian opponent up to seven games.
Garbine Muguruza vs Varvara Lepchencko (Over 18.5 at 1.90)
Former world number 19, Lepchenko is a tough first round draw for Muguruza. The Spaniard should win this one, but I’m backing the left-handed Lepchenko to get at least 7 games against the Wimbledon champion.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga vs Marius Copil (Under 34.5 at 1.75)
Tsonga has been off the boil in recent weeks, but I still do not see him dropping a set against Copil. Hence, this one should be well below the 34.5 mark set on Merrybet.
Jared Donaldson vs Nikoloz Basilashvili (Over 36.5 at 1.75)
These guys could be there all day. They should easily go above 36.5 games.
There is a whole lot more of course! All you need to do is go to merrybet.com click the Tennis section on the sports menu on the left, click on ‘US Open New York’ under ATP or WTA as appropriate, and you will see the long list of matches and possibilities!
