Third round action takes centre stage at Flushing Meadows as the US Open hits its sixth day. Our experts have made their five betting selections for the day- and there are some very eye-catching odds on offer…
Juan Martin del Potro vs Roberto Bautista-Agut (Del Potro to win at 1.85 on Merrybet)
Our eyes lit up at this one- former champion, del Potro put at 1.85 to beat Bautista-Agut. Bautista-Agut has been in decent form lately, winning Winston-Salem and reaching the quarter finals in Montreal, but this is Juan Martin del Potro, this is a hard court and this is the US Open. Bautista-Agut may well go on to win this one, but del Potro at 1.85 is absolutely irresistible!
David Goffin vs Gael Monfils (Over 38.5 at 1.90 on Merrybet)
We think this will be a long physical battle, and both men should comfortably contribute more than the 38.5 games set on Merrybet. If you are brave enough, you could even go for five sets, which is at a decent 3.15. Their two previous tour-level meetings have gone the distance, this should not be an exception!
Agnieszka Radwanska vs CoCo Vandeweghe (Vandeweghe to win at 1.85)
Just like the del Potro odds, Vandeweghe at 1.85 got us absolutely jumping with excitement! We can understand why the bookmakers would make Radwanska the favourite- she has won 5 of their 6 meetings, including their most recent meeting in Toronto. However, Radwanska has had a difficult year, while Vandeweghe has greatly improved this season. She made the semi-finals at the Australian Open and reached the last eight at Wimbledon. Radwanska can get under Vandeweghe’s skin with her flicks and tricks, but we are backing the powerful American to blast her way into the fourth round.
Svitolina vs Shelby Rogers (Over 19.5 at 2.00)
Shelby Rogers has not been in the best of forms lately but she is powerful enough to worry fourth seed, Svitolina. Backed by the New York crowd, Rogers should win at least ten games to get us over the 19.5 mark. Just look at that odd!
Jelena Ostapenko vs Daria Kasatkina (Ostapenko to win at 1.65)
Following her triumph at the French Open, Ostapenko is threatening to leave her fellow youngster, Kasatkina behind. Ostapenko and Kasatkina are both 20, but the Latvian has achieved so much in the last few months that she almost feels like a relative veteran. Kasatkina won their last meeting in Charleston, but we think Ostapenko will get her revenge today, and at I.65 on Merrybet, is fair enough.
There is a whole lot more of course! All you need to do is go to merrybet.com click the Tennis section on the sports menu on the left, click on ‘US Open New York’ under ATP or WTA as appropriate, and you will see the long list of matches and possibilities!
