After breezing past Teenager Andrey Rublev 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 in the quarter finals, Rafael Nadal will take on Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro in an highly anticipated clash.
Del Potro caused a major upset in the quarter finals when he stunned Federer 7-5, 3-6, 7-6(8), 6-4 to book his date with Nadal.
Nadal boasts a winning record against del Potro, holding an 8-5 win-loss record against him.
Having played nine sets over the last two matches, the Argentine admitted he may not be in the best shape for the semi-final.
“Physically I’m not in the perfect conditions, but when you play semi-finals of a Grand Slam, everything can happen, so you must be ready for the chance,” said del Potro. “Playing against Rafa in my favorite tournament, I will try to enjoy the atmosphere and the game.”
It will be interesting to see how this turns out.
In the other semi-final clash, South Africa’s Kevin Anderson will face Pablo Carreno Busta who has not dropped a set at the US Open so far.
These two have met twice in the past, with Kevin Anderson winning on both occasions.
Kevin Anderson became the first South African man or woman to reach the semi finals at the US Open in the Open era with his victory over Sam Querry.
