WTA Finals: Simona Halep and Caroline Wozniacki Stroll to Victory on Day Two

World no. 1, Simona Halep and Caroline Wozniacki both impressed in their opening round-robin matches at the WTA Finals in Singapore.

Simona Halep defeated Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia 6-4, 6-2 in the first Red Group match. It would be her first match since topping the WTA rankings.

“”I’m really pleased,” the Romanian said. “It wasn’t an easy first match against a player that beat me two weeks ago. I felt really well out there.”

In the other match, 27-year-old Caroline Wozniacki recorded her first victory over Elina Svitolina for the first time in her career, as she thoroughly outclassed her 6-2, 6-0 in just 58 minutes.

Wozniacki was in control from the outset of the match, as she hit only 5 unforced errors compared to Svitolina’s 18, who is a debuntante.

“I played extremely well out there, I’m just really happy to be through this first match,” Wozniacki said.

“I tried to stay aggressive and go for my shots it really worked for me today.”
