Australia’s Ashleigh Barty knocked out French Open champion, Jelena Ostapenko to reach the Wuhan Open final.
21-year-old Barty outclassed Latvian, Ostapenko 6-3, 6-0 in the semis and will now face Caroline Garcia, who beat Maria Sakkeri of Greece 6-3, 6-2.
Barty won her first career title in March in Kuala Lumpur, and is now ranked 37th, but began 2017 outside the world’s top 300.
Garcia, meanwhile, is in her first final of the year, and will play for her fourth career title.
“It feels good, it was long time without a final but a lot happened this year,” Garcia said.
The final in Wuhan today, Saturday, will be the first meeting between these two players, and it will be interesting to see how this turns out.
