Youngsters impress at the 3rd MP Tiger Tennis Championships in Lagos

The 3rd MP Tiger Tennis Championships, a tournament aimed at discovering young talents under the age of 10, 12, 14 & 16 within Nigeria, came to close on Friday at the National Stadium in Lagos, with players from the different categories putting up impressive displays to cart away diverse prizes.

In the Boys’ 16 & Under, Abayomi Philips came out on top in the battle of wits as he edged Emmanuel Jebutu 5-4, 5-3 to lift the trophy. Both players featured for Team CBN Futures in last season’s NCC Tennis League.

Star player, Oyinlomo Quadri was as ruthless as usual as she dismantled Lolade Holmes 4-0, 4-0 to hoist the Girls’ 16 & Under trophy.

In the Boys’ 14 & Under final, Jimoh Segun dispatched Fortune Joseph 4-2, 4-2, while Peace Obabori didn’t break a sweat in her 4-0, 4-1 pummelling of Destiny Okhinaye.

Happy Agbi toppled Jeremiah Benjamin 4-2, 4-2 to lift the 12 & Under Boys’ trophy, while Otu Blessing outlasted Serena Teluwo 4-2, 1-4, 7-5 to lift the Girls’ trophy for the same category.

In the 10 and Under category, Jade Nzewe survived a three-set battle against David Edwards in the final, winning 5-3, 1-4, 8-6 to lift the title.

The tournament also served as a timely medium for players to get in shape ahead of the ITF/CAT West & Central African Junior Teams’ Competition for 12 & Under 2018 in Benin.
