Djokovic Survives Shanghai Scare
World number one, Novak Djokovic avoided a stunning upset at the Shanghai Masters when he overcame German qualifier, Mischa Zverev to qualify for the semi-finals of the Masters 1000 event.
Djokovic was in real trouble when he trailed by a set and a break, but the Serbian battled back to sneak the second set on a tie break, before completing the 3-6 7-6 6-3 victory after two hours and 21 minutes.
The 12-time Grand Slam champion will take on Spain’s Roberto Bautista-Agut in Saturday’s semi-finals.
While Djokovic had trouble seeing off Zverev, second seed, Andy Murray produced another commanding performance to oust Belgium’s David Goffin in the quarter finals.
Goffin had already beaten Juan Martin del Potro and Gael Monfils in a fine week in Shanghai, but he was no match for Murray, who raced away with a 6-2 6-2 victory to set up a semi-final with Frenchman, Gilles Simon.
