Rainoil Tennis Open: Thomas Otu, Christopher Bulus Make Strong Starts

The 2017 Dala Hard Court champion, Thomas Otu made a positive start to his campaign yesterday, Monday when the first set of the first round matches were played. Otu made light work of qualifier Ismaila Sikiru, winning 6-1, 6-4 to advance to the second round where he’ll face Michael Michael, who beat Ogbu Richard 6-2, 6-2.

Also, youngster, Christopher Bulus was merciless when he took on Ojo Oyelami as he strolled to a 6-0 6-0 victory. The youngster will play either Christian Paul or Sunday Emmanuel who are in action today.

Uche Okparaoji bounced back from a set down to thrash Timibra Godsgift 6-7, 6-1, 6-0, securing a second round place.

In the Women’s Singles, Sarah Adegoke whitewashed qualifier Ramota Odeyemi 6-0, 6-0, while Ronke Akingbade defeated Stella Udokwelu 6-2, 6-1 to advance to the second round. Aminat Quadri also secured progress with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Angel McLeod, while Serena Teluwo suffered a 6-0, 6-0 battering at the hands of veteran, Rose Abu.

There were a couple of surprises in the Men’s Doubles as the pair of Abdulmumuni Babalola and Abdulganiyu Salami were dumped out by Christian Paul and Linus Paul, who won 6-4, 3-6. Christopher Bulus and Emmanuel Idoko progressed at the expense of Thomas Otu and Emmanuel Ikakah.

In the other match, Clifford Enosorogbe teamed up with Sylvester Emmanuel to beat Ismaila Sikiru and Sola Alalade 6-4, 6-4.
